Tara Reid and Ian Ziering Set to Reprise Roles For 'Sharknado 2: The Second One'

They're back!

According to the New York Daily News, Syfy officially announced that Ian Ziering and Tara Reid will reprise their roles as Fin and April in the "Sharknado" sequel, titled "Sharknado 2: The Second One."

In the sequel, the Sharknado, known as a tornado with sharks, will hit New York City after unsuccessful trying to take the Southern California coast in the first film. The film production team will include director Anthony Ferrante and screenwriter Thunder Levin.

"'Sharknado' was an extraordinary 'perfect storm' which captured the attention of movie fans across the globe," Thomas Vitale, executive vice president of programming and original movies at Syfy, said in a statement. "You couldn't go anywhere without hearing about 'Sharknado'! By reassembling the creative team and dropping sharks onto New York's iconic sites; we're unleashing yet another 'fin' wave of shark-mania."

Paul Bales, from The Asylum, the company behind Sharknado, added, "We're thrilled to be able to bring back the talent that made Sharknado a hit. Can lightning strike twice? I don't know, but it's a scientific fact that you're more likely to be killed by lightning than by a shark. This film will have lightning and sharks, so that's got to count for something."

The sequel was given the green light after tense negotiations with the network, who considered hiring a new cast. The original Sharknado aired with 1.4 million viewers; 566,000 of them adults 18-49. The movie reportedly generated 5,000 tweets per minute at its peak.

The former "Beverly Hills, 90210? and "American Pie" stars will begin filming "Sharknado 2: The Second One" in New York on Feb. 13. It will premiere on the Syfy channel in July, the Daily News reported.
