Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey are scrubbing in for more "Grey's Anatomy".
According to The Wrap, both actors have signed new two-year deals to remain on the long-running ABC drama, reprising their roles as Meredith Grey and Derek Shepherd. The medical drama has not been officially renewed for season 11.
If the show is renewed, it will become one of the longest running medical dramas on television. That said, NBC's Today reported that Dempsey sounded uncertain about returning for another season of the ABC drama, stating that his passion for his character was replaced with driving race cars.
"Work on a TV show doesn't change," Dempsey told TODAY in July. "In a race, it changes constantly, every lap, every corner, every moment of the day. And that's very exciting. It keeps me alive. And then I can go back to work and enjoy it."
According to The New York Post, Pompeo, who has done a limited amount a projects since joining the show, was happy with her character and the show.
"Actors always think the grass is greener somewhere else. I didn't want to do that," Pompeo told The Post. "I have an amazing life. I have a house five minutes from the studio...a beautiful daughter whom I see every night, and it's all because I didn't leave 'Grey's Anatomy.'"
Grey's original cast member Sandra Oh, played by Christina Yang, announced that she would be leaving the show after 10 seasons. The Wrap stated that it is unclear weather cast members Chandra Wilson (Bailey), Justin Chambers (Karev) and James Pickens Jr. (Webber) will be reprising their roles.
"I see the show going as long as I continue to be interested in the show," Executive producer Shonda Rhimes told E! News, about Oh's departure. "And then I don't know about the network, because they might see it going after me. But as I see it, as long as I'm interested and have stories to tell, I'm excited about being there."
According to The Hollywood Reporter the drama pulled in a 2.7 in the 18-49 demographic and 8.4 million viewers for its December mid-season finale. "Grey's Anatomy" is considered ABC's third most-watched drama in total viewers, sitting behind "Castle" and "Scandal."
"Grey's Anatomy" returns Thursday, Feb. 27 at 9/8c on ABC.
