Carly Rae Jepsen Making Broadway Debut in 'Cinderella' Early Next Year

Just call her Cindy! Carly Rae Jepsen is heading to Broadway.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the "Call Me Maybe" singer will make her Broadway debut in Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella".

"Broadway has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl," said Jepsen, according to the THR, "and I look forward to working with this incredibly talented cast to tell this classic tale."

The Canadian singer-songwriter will be replacing Laura Osnes, who earned a Tony nomination for her stage performance. The 28-year-old artist will take the stage starting Feb. 4 for a 12-week run. Julie Andrews starred in the original 1957 TV musical.

The Grammy-nominated pop singer began performing in musical theater while in high school. She starred in "Annie," "The Wiz" and "Grease" before attending the Canadian College of Performing Arts, according to the ReporterAccording to CBS News, in an email to The New York Times, Jepsen expressed her love for the fairytale story as the main reason for choosing the musical.

"It was essentially musical theater training with studies in singing, dancing and acting," she said by email on Sunday. "My favorite part of the school year was our trip to New York, where we met Broadway performers and toured the theaters."

"It's so hopeful and inspiring. I've always been one to believe in the impossible, so I relate to her character completely," she said. 

The singer will be slipping into her glass slipper alongside "The Nanny" actress Fran Drescher, who will be playing Cinderella's stepmother. The Tony-nominated musical has been adapted by playwright Douglas Carter Beane. "Cinderella" has earned a total of nine Tony nominations in 2013.

Jepsen is reportedly also working on her new album scheduled to be release in early 2014.
