Olivia Wilde Has An Opinion About Female Superheroes! Can She Play Captain Marvel?

Olivia Wilde doesn't mince words. The 'Meadowland' actress and director Reed Morano have previously joked about working on the highly anticipated 'Captain Marvel' movie, but when Cinemablend brought up the topic in an interview, she immediately shared her opinion about how female Marvel superheroes are portrayed.

"I'm a big fan of superhero films, and I have so much respect for the Marvel Cinematic Universe," Wilde said. "The thing with female superheroes is that, in order to be powerful, they are flawless. The idea of kick-ass power lacks a certain nuance, at times. There is something to be said for a female director working to create a female superhero that perhaps [has] a little more complexity."

Olivia Wilde was also quick to point out that Marvel has been giving the female superheroes more depth, like offering a glimpse to Black Widow's backstory in 'Avengers: Age of Ultron' and introducing strong women like Gamora and Nebula in 'Guardians of the Galaxy.' However, she thinks that so much more can be done.

"I think that the way these Marvel heroes are written, the female superheroes included, do have complexity and flaws," Wilde said. "But I think when they are translated into film, the women can become these ultimate goddesses of perfection and I would love to create a female Marvel character who is just as unexpected and complex as some of the male characters as Iron Man. I think that would be really cool!"

It sure sounds like Olivia Wilde already has an idea on how she would like to play Carol Danvers if she does end up starring in 'Captain Marvel.' Although UFC champion Ronda Rousey has been actively campaigning for the role, the 'Lazarus Effect' actress has also expressed her interest in the part when a fan suggested that she and Reed Morano should work on 'Captain Marvel.'
