It's been years since the Sriracha craze started all over the world, with even webcomic star The Oatmeal dedicating a good number of comics to express his love for this spicy and delicious treat - however, fast food chains weren't so quick to join in, with Papa John's Sriracha pizza having just gotten its official release.
News of Papa John's Sriracha pizza comes only days after Burger King announced its own special edition Sriracha burger, the Extra Long Sriracha Cheeseburger, only available for a limited time on selected locations across the U.S., and now it's time for a new fast food item based on the spicy sauce - even though it hasn't been that popular for a while now.
According to Eater, Papa John's Sriracha pizza is officially called the Sriracha Meats, and it's not only late in the hot sauce bandwagon but it's not even the first in its specific market to launch the flavor, after Pizza Hut began offering the sauce as topping nearly a year ago.
The new Sriracha pizza's composed of pepperoni and Italian sausage, also including "a drizzle of Papa John's version of Sriracha sauce" as well as red onion, Brand Eating reports, and it's being offered along with two other specialty pizzas, The Works and the BBQ Chicken Bacon, in a limited-time offer through November 22, at $12.
The idea comes after those three toppings were the most popular on a poll to NFL players on the off-season.
On its announcement of the new Sriracha pizza, WWeek says Papa John's "boldly goes where every fast food chain went last year," once again proving that the chain is fairly late taking this step.
Still, even if this new Sriracha pizza's late to the game, it's always a good idea to get America's most recent favorite flavor on just about anything - so if you have the time, visit your nearest Papa John's location and try it out!
