Who doesn't love Mexican food?
Burritos, Tacos, Nachos -- you name it and everyone just starts raving about their all-time favorite Mexican dish. But which place is the best? Some would say the bigger, more formal restaurants should satisfy your cravings. Yet, some would settle for food carts that offer the same kind of flavor and variety at a cheaper price.
According to the Wisconsin State Journal, there is a Mexican food cart that was in third place in the city's annual food review last year but actually made the top spot this year.
Maggie Richter, who runs the Top El Burrito Cart, said that she feels so happy about the result. She has been running the food cart in Capitol Square for 14 years. This year she made more authentic and original food for the judges and plans to launch it next season. She added that this time she will use all her ingredients like how they cook homemade food in Mexico.
Some of her famous and hottest items would be mango cheesecake with tamarind sauce, chicken enchiladas with roasted poblano peppers and more. She makes her food fresh every day from 11am-2pm and during week days, weekends and evenings are for her two restaurants: Senor Peppers and El Burrito Loco.
The Madison Street Vending coordinator, Warren Hansen invited 24 reviewers to judge the competition. All vendors were not only judged by the taste and presentation of the food but by the cart's appearance and originality as well.
The one who got the highest score will have more chances of getting the place they applied for in the coming vending year. The Fine Italian Beef and Sausage took the first place last year now came in the 13th place and Curt's Gourmet Popcorn came in second, with Good Food 1 taking third.
The other carts that were part of the top 10 would be Caracas Empanadas, Bulgogi Korean Burritos, Madison Sourdough to name a few. Not all vending carts take part in the review, those who want to get a spot in the Capitol Square or Library Mall.
The site assignments have already been done for next year. This spot is valid from April 15, 2016 to April 14,2017. However Hansen said he would be making some adjustments in the next few months.
