A Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge revoked Chris Brown's probation on Monday, stemming from his 2009 battery assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna, after the singer was arrested and charged with assault outside a Washington, D.C. hotel in October.
Judge James Brandlin released Brown and ordered the 25-year-old singer continue his court-ordered residential treatment facility for his anger management. The report released by the court on Tuesday stated Brown has "made improvements and positive behavior change in the program since his arrival. He is participating in multiple daily group and individual therapy sessions, including anger management."
Brown's rehab facility commended the singer's progress
"The clinical and medical team have witnessed very positive change in Mr. Brown since his psychotropic medications have been changed and he has been taken off medical marijuana," the facility's program director said. "His ability to emotionally regulate himself has improved markedly."
Brandlin cited details within the arrest report as his reason for revoking Brown's probation; this being the second time this year. In July, the singer's probation was revoked after Brown was charged with a hit-and-run in Los Angeles. Charges were later dismissed.
In October, Brown was arrested after a man accused the R&B crooner of hitting him. Brown and his bodyguard were charged with felony assault, but the case was reduced to a misdemeanor. Brown is not allowed to leave California except to travel to a hearing in the D.C. assault case on Jan. 8.
Brown's attorney Mark Geragos agrees with Brandlin's decision to revoke probation. The singer, sporting a new platinum-blond buzz cut did not speak to the media on his way out of the courthouse.
Brown was ordered to return to court on Feb. 10, for an update on his rehab progress.
