‘Agents Of SHIELD’ Recap: The Shocking Story Of What Happened To Simmons Among Best In Marvel – This Is Why Jemma Wants To Go Back! [SPOILERS]

At the end of the second season of "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD," Jemma Simmons (played by Elizabeth Henstridge) was suddenly eaten up by a monolith the staff was working at, and while Fitz (Iain De Castecker) managed to rescue her, as this "Agents of SHIELD" recap shows, there's one very good reason why she wants to go back.

In a surprising turn of events, as the "Agents of SHIELD" recap shows, the reason Simmons has been acting strange and somehow wanting to go back isn't exactly how inhospitable the planet is - in fact, she fell in love there.

According to Vulture's "Agents of SHIELD" recap, last Tuesday's episode, "4,722 Hours," finally takes fans into what happened to Simmons after she was taken by the monolith: recounting her "4,722 Hours" on the planet in a very "The Martian" sort of way, the episode focuses on how she survived and what she encountered.

For this "Agents of SHIELD" recap, it's important to note Simmons' long process towards the state she's in: upon first arriving, she thought she'd be rescued in no time, but as days passed and she grew thirstier and hungry, she had to get her mind working to make it.

After finding a small lake with drinkable water and almost getting eaten by a weird monster living there, Simmons fell into a trap set by another inhabitant of the island: Will (Dillon Casey), an astronaut who has been stranded on the planet since 2001 and has lost all hope.

Throughout the episode, as Yahoo! reports, the two develop an increasingly friendly relationship as Jemma attempts to bring them back to Earth, to no effect, ultimately giving up hope on going back to her home planet, Fitz and everything she knows - while becoming romantically involved with Will.

Just as Fitz appeared, though, a sandstorm and an evil presence in the planet popped its ugly head, preventing Will from returning with Jemma - which is why she's desperate to reopen the portal.

In its "Agents of SHIELD" recap for last Tuesday's episode, Entertainment Weekly says it's "not only Henstridge's best performance but one of the strongest episodes of the show so far."
