Mariah Carey Takes Over NBC For the Holidays With 'Mariah Carey's 12 Days of Christmas' Special

It looks like all NBC wants for Christmas is Mariah Carey.

According to NBC's Today, the soulful singer will be taking over NBC for 12 days. The network has dubbed the holiday special, which started Wednesday, "Mariah Carey's 12 Days of Christmas."

On different days the 43-year-old singer will make appearances on "Extra," "Access Hollywood," "Watch What Happens Live" and Al Sharpton's "PoliticsNation" on MSNBC, as part of her series special.

Carey's performance will also be featured on "Michael Buble's 3rd Annual Christmas Special," which will air on Dec. 18 at 10 p.m. on NBC.

The singer took "Today" co-host, Tameron Hall, on a tour of home decked out in Christmas decorations, including fresh pink peonies, which are replaced every day by Carey's husband Nick Cannon.

"They're just live flowers; you can smell them!" said the mother of two, who was dressed in a cream negligee and robe. "We did them because it matches the room."

But despite being in the Christmas spirit, Carey said the room, appointed with shiny pink pillows, a TV, fireplace, and Christmas tree, is not often used.

"Nobody's ever really in here," Carey said. "It's really for things (like) archived photographs, personal items in here that are special to me. The kids don't even know this room exists yet."

While showing off her home, Carey shared the story behind her classic Christmas song, "All I Want For Christmas Is You." A song release nearly 20 years ago, which she reportedly wrote on a "little tiny keyboard."

"There was an idea from the label; the record label (said), 'Do a Christmas album,'" Carey said. "[I] wanted to make the most festive song, that would always make people happy.

"Christmas and singing, even in difficult times as a kid ... those moments got me through," she said.

In addition to holiday special, Carey will also headline NBC's 2013 New Year's Eve broadcast.
