Former Dallas Cowboys great Deion Sanders was fired by the charter school he co-founded again.
According to Dallas Morning News, Sanders' dismissal from Prime Prep Academy in Dallas came as a surprise. Chairman Christopher Lewis reportedly disagreed with the move, and the issue is expected to be addressed during a Friday board meeting.
"I never dreamed this," Sanders said to WFAA-TV. "I just dreamed of having the best academic and athletic institution in the country, and we are going to have it. We are going to have it. . . . We just have to get this mess out."
Sander was first fired in October, after a staff member accused him of assault, but was immediately rehired. Prime Prep Academy Superintendent Rachel King-Sanders said in a statement posted on the school's website, at the time, that the NFL Hall of Famer was "no longer an employee or representative" of the academy.
Sanders helped start Prime Prep Academy in Dallas with D.L. Wallace, who is the school's former chief executive officer and director. Wallace was also dismissed after suspicions were raised on rent payments made with school funds.
Sanders served as coach for the academy and participated in other capacities. Roughly 75 students walked out of class in protest, following the Texas school administrators firing of Sanders and asking him to leave school property.
"This is nonsense. We are sick of it," Sanders said. "The kids don't deserve it. Overpaid, under qualified administrators never worked in a school in their life. Total chaos. We have a formula to restore what was the dream at Prime Prep."
The Hall of Famer asked the students to return, which they eventually did. Sanders told students the "chaos" would soon be handled. The academy has two campuses, one in Dallas and the other in Fort Worth.
Sanders was open once news of his first dismissal became public.
