JK Rowling Twitter: ‘Harry Potter’ Author Takes Stand On Palestinian Conflict Refusing To Join Israel Cultural Boycott – And People Aren’t Happy

For the past few months, the wildly successful author of the "Harry Potter" saga has become one of the most popular people on social media, with JK Rowling's Twitter often being the place where she reveals details about her books or thoughts about pop culture events such as Serena Williams' winning streak - but also where she voices her opinion on controversial subjects.

Last week, the author released an open letter opposing the cultural boycott directed at Israel over the ongoing Palestinian conflict, and it has brought her a lot of controversy and people calling her a "Zionist" over her words on JK Rowling's Twitter - but she's standing by her words nonetheless.

According to The Huffington Post, the "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" screenwriter took to JK Rowling's Twitter to share more about her decision to oppose the boycott, explaining that she'd called for dialogue between Israel and Palestine, calling out "most of the actions" of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu - though she's convinced a cultural boycott won't steer the politician away from power.

"The sharing of art and literature across borders constitutes an immense power for good in this world," posted the Potter creator on JK Rowling's Twitter, according to The Jerusalem Post. "At a time when the stigmatization of religions and ethnicities seems to be on the rise, I believe strongly that cultural dialogue and collaboration is more important than ever before and that cultural boycotts are divisive, discriminatory and counter-productive."

The Guardian reports that the star writer also responded to one Palestinian who had challenged her on JK Rowling's Twitter, saying that while she believed in Palestinian rights and deplored occupation, she also feared that a cultural boycott wouldn't target those in power but rather those who are in the country making opposition and could do something to change the current situation.

Could JK Rowling's Twitter response have appeased those who disagree with her? It seems unlikely in such a delicate subject.
