The plot has thickened for Joe and Teresa Giudice.
According to People Magazine, the two stars of "The Real Housewives of New Jersey" are facing additional federal fraud charges, including bank fraud and loan application fraud.
Joe, 43, and Teresa, 41, were each indicted Monday for reportedly lying about Teresa's income and employment situation on a mortgage loan application. Documents suggest Teresa worked as a real estate agent and made $15,000 a month. In reality, authorities said, she was not employed.
Prosecutors said the couple received about $4.6 million in mortgages, withdrawals from home lines of credit and construction loans. Arraignment on these two counts is scheduled for Wednesday.
The charges are in addition to a 39-count indictment handed down in July, charging the couple with conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, bank fraud, making false statements on loan applications and bankruptcy fraud. The couple, who celebrated their 14th wedding anniversary last month, pleaded not guilty on all previous counts in July and that is still the plan moving forward, according to their attorneys.
"As she did with respect to the allegations contained in the original indictment, Teresa intends to plead 'not guilty' to the allegations in the new indictment," her lawyer Henry Klingeman said in a statement. "She looks forward to defending herself at the trial, scheduled for Feb. 24, 2014. Beyond that, we will answer all of the charges in court, not out."
Miles Feinstein, a lawyer for Joe, said his client plans to also plead not guilty.
"They were relieved they could stand up in court and plead not guilty through their attorneys," said Feinstein, after the couple left the Newark federal courthouse in August, according to E! News. "Our position is that it's really piling on."
Joe also allegedly failed to file tax returns from 2004 to 2008, according to People.
The north Jersey residents, parents to four young daughters, are known for their lavish lifestyle and massive home. The reality star was reportedly in denial over the severity of the charges against them, Teresa insisted to the contrary on her Bravo blog.
"I'm not in denial about it, I know it's serious and terrible, and I wouldn't wish this situation on anyone," she wrote in September. "If you've ever been in any kind of legal situation, even a divorce, you know it can suck your soul dry faster than almost anything else. It's not a pretty process. But I choose to stay positive."
