Last year, the "Cinderella" production famous for having seen "Call Me Maybe" singer Carly Rae Jepsen in the top role witnessed NeNe Leakes' Broadway debut, as she played the character's evil stepmother in the production - and just a year later, New York theater's welcoming her back in!
Months after announcing her departure from the reality show that made her famous, "The Real Housewives of Atlanta," the multi-talented star seems to be focusing her work on show business these days, as NeNe Leakes' Broadway career keeps going now that she's been tapped to play Matron "Mama" Morton in "Chicago," the role played by Queen Latifah in an Oscar-nominated turn back in 2002.
According to People Magazine, the fashionista announced NeNe Leakes' Broadway return through social media, taking to Instagram and Twitter to share her happy sage news, as she takes on a role that has been played live by the likes of Marcia Lewis and Meg Johnson.
"I'm so excited to say I am headed back to BROADWAY in CHICAGO as Matron Mama Morton #neneismama," wrote the reality star on her Twitter account, making NeNe Leakes' Broadway follow-up official.
She will be joining an all-star cast currently led by Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's daughter, Rumer, fresh off her "Dancing with the Stars" victory, who will be playing the lead role in the production, Roxie Hart, the character Renée Zellweger portrayed in the film version.
Understandably enough, the guys at E! Online are quite excited to see Leakes' performance, as the sassy star has certainly shown off some mad skills in the dance floor in the past, having also been on "DwtS" before.
As Entertainment Weekly reports as "Chicago" continues shedding light in theater after a 19-year production, NeNe Leakes' Broadway return is scheduled for November 22, after legendary "Chicago" veteran Carol Woods drops the role following a short stint as Mama Morton.
