A regular airplane flight from Lisbon, Portugal to Dublin, Ireland turned into a nightmare for Aer Lingus passengers as they watched a man go crazy before biting another passenger.
According to The Irish Mirror, Aer Lingus Flight EI 485 alerted air traffic controllers about an incident on the Airbus A320-200 and requested clearance to land due to a passenger being "extremely violent." The pilot informed controllers that the man has "run amok" and had allegedly "injured one or two passengers."
As strange as it sounded, nobody was prepared for what would happen once the Aer Lingus plane finally landed at Cork Airport in Ireland.
According to reports, the man had become agitated then began "biting" a fellow passenger. However, it didn't stop there as the man then started "biting another passenger" before being restrained by the crew.
Luckily, a doctor was onboard and was able to treat the violent passenger, who had become ill after being restrained before losing consciousness. Before the plane could land, the man was pronounced dead.
As soon as the Airbus A320-200 had landed, all of its 168 passengers and six crew members were moved out of the plane and into the airport so paramedics and an HSE ambulance could get to the scene. According to reports, the two injured passengers who were allegedly bitten by the deceased were taken to the hospital.
An update from The Irish Mirror reports that further investigation by the Gardai revealed that the 24-year-old passenger was a Brazilian man who was allegedly hidden $92,000 worth of drugs in his stomach. He was accompanied by a Portuguese woman, who was arrested after more than four pounds of "powdered substance" was found in her luggage.
Aer Lingus released the following statement after the incident:
"Aer Lingus flight EI 485 Lisbon to Dublin, diverted into Cork due to a medical emergency on board. There were 168 guests and six crew members on board. The flight landed safely at 17.40 local time."
