Gina Carano: MMA Fighter Set to Star in 'In The Blood' and Talks Being Wonder Woman (VIDEO)

MMA fighter-turned-actress Gina Carano will be hitting the big screen soon.

Carnano will star in the intense action flick "In The Blood" according to The Hollywood reporter.

Anchor Bay Entertainment President Bill Clark announced they've acquired the North American rights to the film that co-stars Luis Guzman, Stephen Lang, Amaury Nolasco, Cam Gigandet, Danny Trejo, Treat Williams, Ismael Cruz Cordova and Yvette Yates.

"The first time I saw Gina Carano fight with Pro Elite, I knew I had to make a movie with her," Kevin Kasha, Executive Vice President, Acquisitions and Co-Productions said."'In The Blood' is the perfect film for Gina and we at Anchor Bay Films are proud to be releasing it."

The 31-year-old actress will play Ava, a newlywed whose husband is kidnapped while on their honeymoon in the Caribbean. As Carano's character grieves, she fights her way to the truth of what happened to her husband, and in the process manages to expose a conspiracy in the area.

"'In the Blood' represents the start of a strong female franchise character and audience are going to love seeing Gina Carano as 'Ava'" said producers Shaun Redick and Ray Mansfield.

Carano's acting debut came in a film called "Haywire" which Steven Soderbergh modeled around her. After Rainfall Films released an intense two-minute "Wonder Woman" short film, rumors quickly began to swirl that the fighter could fill the action hero's boots.

According to The Inquisitr, Carano also spoke out about the Wonder Woman role, saying that she sees great potential in the project.

"That's the ultimate superhero for a woman," she said. "No matter what, no matter who ends up being Wonder Woman someday, I just hope it's something that is done correctly. I know it's there and that it could definitely be done correctly.

"It's just a matter of getting the right people and having the right vision come together. A director and producer and writer have to see the beauty in it and make it real," she said.

"In the Blood" is set to release in 2014.
