Richard Gere Goes On a Disguise As a Homeless Person In New York And The Crowd's Reaction Will Surprise You

It is not everyday that anyone gets to hangout with a huge Hollywood star like Richard Gere and apparently, when that happens, people won't even recognize him. In a report published by The Inquisitr, Gere pretended to be a homeless guy in New York City and it was surprising that he went totally unnoticed by people passing by.

This too was cited by Ashton Kutcher's site called Aplus and apparently, it is for a new film project that Gere was working on called, Time Out of Mind. In the movie, his role is a homeless man who is trying to make amends with his daughter.

What's shocking was, Gere went to the streets without really altering his face to do some usual disguise. He was just there wearing the usual homeless clothes like baggy pants and a hat. He was recognized only once during the entire time that he was on the street.

Pictures of Gere in the street were posted via an unofficial fan page on Facebook and it instantly went viral with more than a million likes. It was a humbling experience for the actor even if it was just for an hour that he got to be in a homeless person's shoes.

The legendary actor opened up to People magazine about his whole experience and said, "I felt what it was like to be a homeless man. People would just past by me and look at me in disgrace."

He continued saying, "It wasn't about me; it was a perception about all of us that we tend to just skate along the surface of things. where I was in the street filled in spaces with an erroneous story."

After learning from this experience, Gere went back on the streets of New York as himself and handed $100 to each homeless person that he would pass by.
