Scientist Development New Hang-Over Free Beer

A group of Australian scientists may have solved one of man's age-old problems - the hangover.

According to the New York Daily News, a team at Griffith University's Health Institute created hangover-free beer. The beer was created by adding an electrolyte-charged ale that hydrates three times more than regular beer and prevents hangover-related symptoms.

"We know that beer is a very popular drink with people, particularly after sport or exertion," associate professor Ben Desbrow told ABC.

The researchers used two commercially-made beers, a light and a regular beer, and tested their hydration qualities by giving it to people who had just exercised.

The newly-developed beverage allowed drinkers to keep sipping while avoiding dehydration that leads to next-day hangover symptoms. According to the Daily News, drinking beer after exercising can increase hydration due to carbonation and carbohydrate content that helps replenish lost calories.

According to ABC News, researchers found the light beer, with lower alcohol level, was three times more hydrating than normal beer, after electrolytes were added.

"From our perspective it's about exploring harm minimization approaches that may still allow people to potentially drink beer as a beverage, but lower the risks associated with the alcohol consumption and hopefully improve re-hydration potential," Desbrow told ABC.

According to the Daily News, drinking beer after exercising can actually increase hydration due to carbonation and carbohydrate content that helps replenish lost calories.

"Alcohol in a dehydrated body can have all sorts of repercussions, including decreased awareness of risk," Desbrow told the Daily News. "So, if you're going to live in the real world, you can either spend your time telling people what they shouldn't do, or you can work on ways of reducing the danger of some of these socialized activities."
