Burger King France To Purchase Chain, Becoming Second-Largest Fast Food In France After McDonald’s

While Burger King is the second biggest fast food chain all over the world right after biggest competitor McDonald's, this isn't the case with the Burger King France franchise, as it also competes with a far more local venture, Quick, currently based on the St. Denis suburb of Paris - but that might be over very soon.

Last Monday, the Burger King France franchise announced it was currently in exclusive talks to buy Quick, one of its most important competitors in the country (the presence of the royal-themed chain in the country is much smaller in comparison), and the union would make it the second biggest chain in French territory.

According to Reuters, there are currently only 25 Burger Kings in France, as the chain only came back to the European country in 2013 after an absence of over 13 years, as it had left France in 1997.

While the terms aren't official yet, this new Burger King France deal comes from the major shareholder in the country's franchise, Groupe Bertrand, which is exclusively pursuing buying Quick.

In the new deal, the Quick restaurants in the European country (509 in total) would be rebranded as Burger King France, while the chain's restaurants found outside French borders (such as Luxembourg, Belgium and beyond Europe) would keep the name Quick.

As Bloomberg reports, this would be a major step for Burger King in the European nation, as it's lagged behind McDonald's since its return to France, as the Golden Arches chain has captured almost half of the fast food market in the period since its return, having 1,200 restaurants across France.

According to Market Watch, the end of 2015 should see the finalization of the the transaction between Quick and Burger King France, and it would turn the French market into one of the biggest ones for the chain in the world.
