After a long wait and a fair amount of secrecy regarding production on Netflix's part regarding the show starring Krysten Ritter (from "Breaking Bad" and "Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23"), the "Jessica Jones" release date has finally been announced and, as promised, it's set for this fall, as Marvel's partnership with Netflix had announced plans to launch new material twice a year.

Last spring, the world saw the first-ever Marvel Cinematic Universe Netflix series, the very dark and gritty "Daredevil" starring Charlie Cox in the title role, and now, the production company's rolling out its second partnership by officially announcing the "Jessica Jones" release date.

According to Polygon, the "Jessica Jones" release date was announced through Marvel Entertainment's YouTube channel, with he first teaser for the upcoming series, which would be the second Netflix Marvel Cinematic Universe television show and the fourth MCU series after "Agents of SHIELD" and this year's releases "Agent Carter" and "Daredevil."

The "Jessica Jones" release date, which was already expected to be sometime this fall, will see more than half of Netflix's "Defenders" characters being introduced to the MCU, as Luke Cage, Jones' husband in the comics, will also see the light of day in the new series, played by Mike Colter.

Ahead of the "Jessica Jones" release date, IGN reports that the series is based on the comic book "Alias" created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos, and it follows the story of a former costumed vigilante who ends up opening a business as a private investigator after being let down from superhero life.

According to Super Hero Hype, the show, full title "A.K.A. Jessica Jones," will also star "Harry Potter" and "Doctor Who" actor David Tennant, Rachael Taylor, Carrie-Anne Moss, Wil Traval, Eka Darville and Erin Moriarty among others.

After "Jones," the next shows will be "Luke Cage" and "Iron Fist," though it's believed their release dates may be pushed back after Netflix announced "Darevil" would get a second season.
