Danny Boyle's upcoming Steve Jobs biopic just got the blessing of one of Job's closest friends. Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak heaped praise on the film, singling out Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender's portrayal of his late business partner.
"I saw a rough cut and I felt like I was actually watching Steve Jobs and the others, not actors playing them, I give full credit to [director] Danny Boyle and [screenwriter] Aaron Sorkin for getting it so right," he said to Deadline.
The film, which made its debut at the 42nd Telluride Film Festival, differs from 2013's Ashton Kutcher fronted attempt at telling the story of Jobs' life and legacy. Instead of the slightly scattershot 'greatest hits' style approach employed by the latter, Boyle's version uses three key Apple product launches as a backdrop for showing the company's influence on the personal computing revolution.
Boyle, whose previous credits include Trainspotting and Slumdog Millionaire, told the New York Times that Steve Jobs was the most challenging film he's made.
"I tend to be a very visceral director and entertain through that with fast cutting, and what you're going to see tonight is very, very different," he said. "The challenge is try to create the space for the actors to act out these extraordinary scenes."
The film's screenplay was penned by acclaimed writer Aaron Sorkin, who bagged an Oscar for his previous dive into the tech world, 2010's The Social Network. Deadline said his work on this film was like 'an action movie driven exclusively by words.' Is another Oscar in the cards for Sorkin? We'll have to wait and see.
The film opens in the US on October 9, 2015. It stars Michael Fassbender as Jobs, Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, and also features the likes of Kate Winslet and Jeff Daniels.
