If there is one thing that a lot of people have noticed about The Walking Dead series, it's the fact that black characters are the ones who often die. Although recently, the creators of the show have added a new black character, for some reason they have once again managed to eliminate him.
Huffington Post even pointed out that there is no chance one would spot two black roles on the story at the same time, they are just around to even out the demographics, according to them.
Since this observation became an issue in the Internet, the show's executive producer, Dave Erickson, finally thought of setting the records straight about the matter.
His recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter (THR) was meant to shed some light into the issue.To all those who have been asking if the same thing will happen in Fear The Walking Dead, which is the original series' prequel.
He said that he is aware of this issue now and that they are being more cautious about this. However, everything that happened to the characters is all significant to the storyline. He said, "Ultimately it's trying to tell the story the best way we can and cast the best people we can. I wouldn't want to go back and recast a character just to avoid ... if it doesn't feel true to the character or the relationship -- the relationship with Alicia and Matt or Calvin and Nick." He also made it clear that producers who were assigned during the casting had no idea, which of those characters would live or die.
Vanity Fair also has a statement coming from Erickson saying that is inevitable for a black character to die from a zombie apocalypse, since they have a pretty diverse cast.
