A video of a woman acting all crazy while laying down in the middle of a highway recently surfaced. The woman, saying all kinds of erratic things, allegedly smoked flakka that lead to her bizarre behavior, which officers describe as "zombie-like."
In fact, flakka has surpassed cocaine as the hailing drug in Florida this year, as reported by Complex. Flakka or "gravel" is a synthetic substance also called alphapyrrolidinopentiophenone (alpha-PVP).
CNN reported that the man-made crystal chunks looking like "aquarium gravel" gives a high that is likened to cocaine. "It's worse than heroin, meth, all that," Illinois police chief William Southerd tells VICE.
"The reaction, the best way I can describe it is, the terms my officers used is that you're dealing with a bunch of zombies, they're just completely out of their mind," Southerd continued.
William Southerd has even seen the effects first hand. Body cameras on officers in southern Illinois were recently able to capture footage of a naked 51-year-old man "experiencing excited delirium after ingesting flakka."
The police department has chosen not to release the footage yet, given that the man had died eventually. Conversely, William Southerd would soon want to use the footage to train and educate officers on dealing with users of the highly addictive flakka.
It's clear that the police department has limited to little knowledge on the synthetic drug. The death certificate for the 51-year-old man stated "overdose by bath salts" as its cause of death.
Bath salts were highly used as a drug approximately from 2012 to 2014. Bath salts seem to be just as bad as flakka, given that one naked man from Miami in the past tried to eat the head of another man.
