Jessica Alba honestly shared her thoughts on being compared to Gwyneth Paltrow. US Magazine reports the Barey Lethal star calls the comparison between two actresses-turned-businesswomen is "unfair" and sexist.
People are comparing Alba's The Honest Company to Paltrow's Goop. "What I think is unfair is to lump actresses together," the 34-year-old shared in her interview with Allure magazine. "People aren't lumping Justin Timberlake and Ashton Kutcher together. They do other businesses. I think it's expected that when you get success in one area, you're supposed to evolve and try to do something else-especially in business, and especially if you're a man."
Alba also addressed the issue generally concerning sexism for stereotyping women. "Women are freaking resilient," the Sin City actress went on. "I never wanted to play into a stereotype, where it's like, 'Oh, you're just the girl who gets saved by the guy,' and she doesn't know how to make decisions, and she gets overwhelmed with all this stuff happening around her."
Now Alba is being careful on what roles to accept saying she doesn't want to bare too much skin on films anymore. "If there's a role where I feel comfortable doing that, sure," she explained. "It's just I never felt like being naked was going to make the movie any better. If anything, it was just going to exploit me for no reason."
The mother of seven-year-old Honor and four-year-old Haven shares she's moving on from acting to focusing on her beauty and skin-care business, The Honest Company, which was launched in Santa Monica in 2011. "I've always been on my own path," she said.
With her producer-husband for 11 years, Cash Warren by her side, Jessica says she has all the support she needs. "It wouldn't really be possible without him. He helped me put together my initial business plan. He was always my biggest cheerleader."
With all the comparisons and criticisms, especially the recent backlash on the Honest sunscreen with users claiming the product doesn't work, Alba is just grateful somebody's got her back. "Having someone who genuinely has your back, no matter what, there's nothing like that... It's a real unconditional love... The partner that you choose to go through life with you, that's your chosen family."
Jessica Alba's Allure magazine cover issue hits the stands in September.
