'American Horror Story: Hotel' Update: 'New Girl' Star Max Greenfield Has 'Most Disturbing Scene!' Are Lady Gaga And Angela Bassett In A Relationship?

Fans of Schmidt from 'New Girl' may have a hard time recognizing Max Greenfield in 'American Horror Story: Hotel!'

TV Line reports that showrunner Ryan Murphy has revealed that Max Greenfield has changed his appearance for his role in the upcoming FX series.

"He plays an addict who checks into the hotel and tangles with Sarah Paulson," Murphy said at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills.

Ryan Murphy confirmed that he felt that Max Greenfield would commit to the role as much as he can.

"I said, 'I have a feeling that you can and want to do something really f-ked up,'" he said of his conversation with Greenfield. "And he said, 'How did you know?' So he cut off his beautiful hair and dyed it. And I think he's lost 30 pounds. Yesterday, I talked to him and his waist I think is down to a 27. So he's really committed to it."

Murphy also admitted that Max Greenfield has a pivotal role in the show, since "the most disturbing scene we've ever done, he's at the center of."

All that commitment isn't going unnoticed. "He really pushed himself as an actor," Murphy said of Greenfield's performance. "I was proud of him."

The 'American Horror Story: Hotel' TCA panel also revealed some juicy details about the hotel owner Elizabeth (played by Lady Gaga) and Ramona Royale (Angela Bassett).

"I have a very strong, real, lasting relationship with [Lady Gaga's] character," Angela Bassett revealed at the panel. "My character is this fabulous actress of the day. I don't live at the hotel, but I visit very often."

'American Horror Story: Hotel' also stars Chloe Sevigny, Finn Wittrock, Cheyenne Jackson, Kathy Bates, Denis O'Hare, Matt Bomer and Wes Bentley. The series will premiere on FX on October 7.
