Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation With $56M U.S. Box Office Debut

Mission accomplished for Tom Cruise, as the Mission: Impossible franchise continues to deliver big returns. Over the weekend, the movie Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation,  easily came in AT No. 1 in the box office. In North America, the new Mission Impossible film of Tom Cruise opened a better than expected $56 million.

Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation's first $56M over the weekend at  3,956 theaters, made the Rogue Nation second highest weekend ever for a Mission: Impossible movie. it is the third highest of an opening weekend in the career of Tom Cruise after War of the Worlds $64.9M and Mission: Impossible II with $57.8M.

Megan Colligan, Paramount's worldwide distribution and marketing chief, stated, "The interesting story as it relates to Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation is that we were supposed to come out at Christmas. The move to July occurred when we were in the middle of shooting. It was a move that Tom Cruise wanted as he felt there was an opportunity in the summer and Brad Grey and Paramount backed him 100%."

Tom Cruise's critically acclaimed film, Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation buoyed by an A- CinemaScore. It is Tom Cruise's fifth Mission: Impossible installment and continues the goodwill that created by the movie, Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol.

Jeff Goldstein, Warner Bros. Executive vice president of domestic distribution, said, "Younger audiences gave it the best scores, and the movie also over-indexed in the South and in the middle of the country."

Rogue Nation is written and directed by Christopher McQuarrie, as agent Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his team combat the Syndicate that wanted to demolish the IMF (Impossible Mission Force). Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation also starred Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Rebecca Ferguson.

Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore, stated, "This weekend shows that Tom Cruise continues to be a popular star and that Mission continues to be one of the most popular franchises in the U.S. and globally."

Chairman Rob Moore also confirmed that a sixth installment is being developed for Cruise.
