Serena Williams won her sixth Wimbledon title after defeating Spain's Garbine Muguruza at the Grand Slam finals at the Centre Court on Saturday. The 33-year-old American plater won by 6-4 6-4 against her 21-year-old opponent on the 20th seed in a one hour and 23-minute match.
This win gave Williams her "Serena Slam" for holding all four major titles and her 21st Grand Slam title and the third for this year.
"I honestly wouldn't have thought last year after winning the U.S. Open I would win the Serena Slam at all," CNN quotes Williams. "It's super exciting."
On her first Grand Slam match, Murguruza was also able to challenge Williams by taking a 4-2 lead before the World's number one battled for a 5-1 score and two serving breaks.
"Garbine started playing really well and I just had to think to stay out there and work really hard," Williams told BBC. "There was definitely pressure towards the end."
"I don't feel disappointment but you never know how many chances you're going to have to play a final in a grand slam," Muguruza told CNN. "But if you have to choose who to win or who to lose to, I would choose Serena."
In the male singles, defending champion Novak Djokovic defeated seven-time Wimbledon title-holder, Roger Federer by 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Serb blocked the 33-year-old Swiss from claiming his eighth Wimbledon title, which could have made him the first male player to win the All England Club eight times.
"I have to say it's a big challenge playing against Roger. A lot of players of my generation have looked up to him and followed his lead," Djokovic told BBC. "He makes you push your limits, work hard and win every single point."
This is Djokovic's third Wimbledon championship and ninth Grand Slam title.
