It's clear that, since the film's 2013 release, Elsa and "Frozen" have turned into favorites for little girls all over the world, as the movie has become wildly successful and went on to win two Academy Awards, including Best Animated Feature Film - and now it seems like new moms also fell in love with the character's name!
Every year, The New York Times releases a list of the 500 most popular baby names in the United States over the past year, and Elsa from "Frozen" has made the list for 2014-2015, after having been entirely absent from the ranking since 1917.
Interestingly enough, though, while Elsa's "Frozen" name rose hundreds of positions in popularity, the actual heroine of the story, Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell), hasn't seen a rise, though the name has always remained popular; since the release of the film, the film only went one step up, from the 35th most popular name to the 34th one.
According to Time Magazine, the name Elsa from "Frozen" was given to a total of 1,131 baby girls born last year, which means it ranks on the 286th spot of the list - which isn't exactly high, except when it's considered the name hadn't made the top 500 in nearly a full century.
The Guardian reports that the newfound popularity of the name Elsa from "Frozen" hadn't seen such a rise in more than a century, as the last time Elsa ranked quite so high in the list was in 1897, when it was on the number 251.
The first time "Elsa" was featured in the top 500 list of names was in 1917, and it kept losing popularity ever since, although reaching a new peak between the 50s and 60s, and it reached the lowest point in 1998 at 999 on the ranking of popular names.
Other names featured in the Disney film such as Olaf (Josh Gad) and Kristoff (Jonathan Groff) saw no rise on the ranking.
Elsa from "Frozen" is voiced by Broadway star Idina Menzel.
