Sony's PlayStation 3 was originally released in 2006, and has been one of the top three video gaming consoles on the market.
Three years later, in 2009, Sony decided it was time to slim the bulky machine down a bit and released a redesigned console called the PlayStation 3 Slim, which retained much of the same capabilities of the original but was smaller and had been stripped of a few facilities, such as the PS2 backwards compatibility, memory card reader, and a couple of connectors for external accessories on the console.
Now, three more years down the road, Sony is releasing the second face-lift of the console, perhaps not so creatively called the PlayStation 3 Super Slim because it is, well, even slimmer than the Slim. It will replace all previous PlayStation 3 models on markets worldwide.
The Super Slim will be available in three versions. One is a 12 GB version, only slated for a European release on October 12, 2012. The second is a 250 GB version bundled with "Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception, Game of the Year Edition", and which has already seen a U.S. release, while still awaiting its Japanese release on October 4, 2012. A third version is a 500 GB machine bundled with "Assassins Creed III", which has already launched in Europe, and will hit U.S. soil on October 30, 2012, and be available at Japanese retailers on October 4, 2012.
The price tag for the European 12 GB version is €230, the 250 GB U.S. and Japan version will launch at $270 and ¥24,980 respectively. Finally the 500 GB is launched at €300 in Europe, $300 in the U.S., and ¥29,980 in Japan.
