The weekend box office is getting ready for the return of the dinosaurs.
The highly anticipated sequel 'Jurassic World' will finally be released right before the weekend, and analysts are already expecting the fantasy action film to generate as much as $125 million across North America.
Variety reports that Universal Studios have projected a debut just a little over $100 million.
The fourth installment in the 'Jurassic Park' movie series will also be released in several international territories including Australia, Brazil, China, Mexico, France, Germany, Italy, South Korea and the U.K. The film is expected to dominate the box office in these major markets to push it into an even larger gross by Monday.
'Jurassic World' will bring audiences back to the place where it all began, although this time the island has been transformed into a dinosaur theme park. 'Guardians of the Galaxy' star Chris Pratt plays as a raptor trainer who teams up with the theme park's director (Bryce Dallas Howard).
Together, they must fight to keep visitors safe from a rogue hybrid dinosaur known as Indominus Rex.
Analysts are wary that the film might simply be riding on the worldwide recognition of its brand to pull in a major box office win. Phil Contrino, who is the chief analyst and vice president of BoxOffice.com, confirms that 'Jurassic World' will be a winner, but there is no telling how much it actually wins.
"We're heading into the same territory where we were with 'Avengers,' where things are getting out of control with the numbers," Contrino said. "It's not a matter of whether or not people are interested. It's how much they like it. Word-of-mouth will dictate how much it explodes."
'Jurassic World' has been enjoying a generally positive reception in social media, and initial reviews are calling it a success.
The dinosaurs invade theaters on June 12, 2015.
