Vanessa Hudgens' 'Gigi' Ending Broadway Run on June 21

The Broadway revival of the musical "Gigi" has been confirmed to run until June 21 because of low ticket sales even after performing during the recent Tony Awards.

The announcement came a day before the show premiered at the Neil Simon Theatre in New York City Tuesday evening.

This year's revival stars "High School Musical" actress Vanessa Hudgens in the title role of Gigi, and Corey Cott as Gaston Lachaille. After June 21, the show will have had 20 previews and 86 on-stage performances, according to the New York Times.

During its official opening in April 8, the musical received various feedback from the audience and critics, party due to its many stage revisions and other notable changes from the original piece. Ticket sales began to decline since last month.

Last week, the venue was barely half full and it only got 30% out of its potential target sales of $1.3 million.

Even if the production was able to garner a Tony Award nomination for Victoria Clark in the Best Featured Actress in a Musical category, it didn't seem to help boost ticket sales.

Despite the end of its Broadway run this month, "Gigi" will be going on a national tour next year until 2017, by which a new version will be made available for licensing.

Jenna Segal, main show producer, said, "We're grateful too for the audiences who came and loved Gigi on Broadway and are so happy that the show will live on through a US National Tour and licensing. Coellette's heroine has had many lives, and we look forward to Gigi's next chapter."

"Gigi" is a story about a teenage girl living in Paris at the turn of the 20th century. She is being groomed by her family to become a high-society courtesan, before meeting and falling in love with Gaston, an old family friend.

The musical is based on a novella by Colette and features lyrics from Frederick Lowe and Alan Jay.
