Gmail has now taken the lead as the world's most popular email service, already reaching 900 million subscribers worldwide, twice the number of active users it had a few years back.
At the Internet giant's annual I/O developers conference held last Thursday, May 28, Google's senior vice president of products, Sundar Pichai had announced the good news, including the newest Gmail updates that were purposely redesigned for mobile devices.
Highlighting 'mobile devices', Pichai has put an emphasis on the dominant amount of Gmail users who usually open their accounts through smartphoned and tablets. As for the matter, Google is now making a big push globally with its new email service called 'Inbox.'
Google says that the new email service is a smarter way to organize the daily flow of messages. The new function was first launched as an invitation-only service back in October, but now Inbox can be accessed by everyone without the need for invitation, Digital Trends reported.
On the market side, Google's latest email service is making its public opening with its newest features, which Google believes would attract more people.
Alex Gawley, Gmail's director of product management said in an interview that for such service with the objective of building a service that carries more of the busy work for people, the idea is to make email "as powerful on their phone as on any computer."
Without having to open a new message, 'Inbox' highlights important information from the mails such as attached photos or a document. Gmail users can also make tasks or put reminders at the top of the inbox.
If eyeing for a good spot such as locating your favorite restaurant or bar, it adds a map to your confirmation e-mail. When users book a flight online for an out-of-town trip, the app will provide a link for web check-in.
'Inbox' by Gmail is available for iOS and Android users.
