It's official! Star Wars is set to hit Chinese theaters.
While the whole world is atuned to the upcoming installment in the Star Wars Saga, China gets to have a first taste of "the force" in the George Lucas masterpiece. Earlier reports from various sources today announced that not just three but all six of the Star Wars episodes that complete the saga will be featured for screening at the Walt Disney Pictures and Shanghai International Film Festival's 18th edition which happens on the 13th to the 21st of June.
With the political unrest China has undergone, it is not a surprise that the Chinese movie viewers haven't had the chance to get a glimpse of the first three original Star Wars films. The Star Wars plot revolving in the rebellion and uprising against a tyrannical empire was deemed unacceptable then, for the Chinese public consumption.
It looks like "the force" is going strong and is set to amass a huge number of Chinese followers. This coincidentally comes before the premiere of Lucas Films 7th installation to the saga Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The Chinese audience is lucky to see Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith in its debut in China's theatres. This will be the first time that the first three original Star Wars films will be shown in the country which ultimately completes the experience. This move is also expected to generate a healthy buzz among Chinese moviegoers in anticipation of the much awaited Episode 7 Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which hits theaters later this year.
With the Chinese government leaning towards a more open minded stance about what its people should see or not see, things are about to change. Star Wars after all has evolved to become a rite of passage, a movie experience that completes the childhood of many.
