Considering they literally boldly go where not a lot of people have gone before, there's little surprise in seeing that astronauts are big fans of science fiction, so the "Star Trek" outfit an Italian space traveler wore in the International Space Station wasn't that big a shock ... but Samantha Cristoforetti's first espresso sure was!
Not too long ago, the famous US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) embarked on a mission to learn about how the human body reacts when in space for a long period of time, but the rest of the astronauts at the ISS are more concerned with their food choices, such as Samantha Cristoforetti's first espresso.
According to NBC News, Samantha Cristoforetti's first espresso at the ISS marks the first time this coffee is ever brewed in space, after Elon Musk's SpaceX Dragon cargo capsule brought the ISSpresso machine to the station last month.
The Huffington Post reports that Samantha Cristoforetti's first espresso happened a bit later than she'd intended, as the cargo was supposed to arrive to the ISS back in January; however, after the Orbital Sciences resupply launch failed in the past October, the entire schedule for cargo arrivals had to be changed.
While Samantha Cristoforetti's first espresso made her a trending topic worldwide, in fact the astronaut has been making fans for the past few months, ever since she was launched to the International Space Station last November; according to CTV News, the Italian has turned into the latest superstar on social media reporting from space.
Over the course of the past few months, Cristoforetti has conducted a series of videos with science lessons for those who love to learn more about space, giving dreamers a glimpse into what it's like to orbit the Earth and telling fans around the planet what an astronaut's everyday life is aboard the ISS.
