After the famous annual event took place in New York City last Monday, the world is aching to read about the Met Gala red carpet 2015, though for the first time in many years the "Fashion Police" star Joan Rivers won't be around to talk about the best and worst lists.
Altogether, the E! "Fashion Police" isn't currently being aired, but the show must go on at the Met Gala red carpet 2015, where some of the biggest stars in show business strutted their stuff earlier this week, from "Game of Thrones" actress Sophie Turner making her debut at the event to other pros like Anne Hathaway and Miley Cyrus also stepping in.
According to The Irish Independent, the Met Gala red carpet 2015 showed a marked tendency towards trading the event's usual classic elegance for eye-catching couture, as many of the famous stars in the event went for shocking value, including Beyoncé and Kim Kardashian.
The New York Times reports that, interestingly enough, it was Vogue who set up many of the Met Gala red carpet 2015 dresses, as they matched many designers with some of the most highly coveted stars in fashion.
While many actresses walked the Met Gala red carpet 2015 wearing clothes by brands they represent (most notably Oscar-winning star Jennifer Lawrence in Dior, a company she's been the face of for years, and Jennifer Lopez wearing Versace after years of donning their gowns), others such as Claire Danes were asked by Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue and hostess for the charity event, to wear one thing or another - and, in Danes' case, the choice was Valentino.
The Vogue editor-in-chief is so vital to the event that the venue is now officially called the Anna Wintour Costume Center.
NBC News listed 17 of their favorite outfits for the night, including Sarah Jessica Parker's bold headpiece by Philip Treacy, Kendall Jenner's glittery Calvin Klein green dress (and her sister Kim Kardashian's feathery white gown by Roberto Cavalli, designed by Peter Dundas), Amal Clooney's ruby-red John Galliano gown, Anne Hathaway's gold hoodie sensation dress created by Ralph Loren, Beyoncé's revealing and bejeweled Givenchy Haute Couture (designed by Riccardo Tisci), Rihanna's very long-tailed yellow outfit by Beijing designer Guo Pei (appropriate as the evening was China-themed) and Sofia Vergara's low-cut Marchesa gown.
The Met Gala red carpet 2015 is considered among the most extravagant events of the year, and this year's theme, "China: Through the Looking Glass," celebrates the Asian country's influence in worldwide fashion, prompting many stars to wear gowns that reflected on Chinese culture - and while some were celebrated or universally loved, others like Hathaway's Jedi-looking gown and Parker's very large headpiece were met with mixed reviews, according to New Zealand magazine Stuff.
Hollywood Life's list of Worst Dressed for the night also includes Kardashian matriarch Kris in a heavily unflattering outfit, as well as Solange Knowles in what has been described as a "oyster-looking shell costume" while Entertainment Tonight also cites Chloe Sevigny and Alicia Keys among the worst dressed.
