Trader Joe’s Recall: Walnuts Could Be Contaminated With Salmonella

As the country goes through a listeriosis scare after it was found that there were Blue Bell Creameries products that were infected with the listeria bacteria, a new Trader Joe's recall might prevent further disease or even deaths, as apparently some of their products might be contaminated with salmonella.

The new Trader Joe's recall sees five different types of walnuts getting called to the specialty grocery store chain, and apparently the contaminated products were sent out to venues all over the country, so they're calling for buyers from every store in the US to send the walnuts back to them.

The Trader Joe's recall was announced through the company's website, as they said that they "had been alerted" that there was a risk of possible salmonella contamination in five varieties of their walnut products, namely: Trader Joe's Nuts Raw California Walnut Pieces, Trader Joe's Nuts Raw California Walnut Halves & Pieces, Trader Joe's Nuts Raw California Walnut Baking Pieces, Trader Joe's Nuts Raw California Premium Walnut Halves and Trader Joe's Organic Raw Walnut Halves & Pieces.

As Los Angeles Weekly reports, the Trader Joe's recall announcement also contained the specific lot and UPC numbers, as they stated that these had been distributed nationwide, and that gladly for now there had been no announcements of illnesses over the consumption of the walnuts, though they've decided to pull them off stores as a precaution nonetheless, as they want to identify what was the exact issue and identify the problem with the products.

According to Press Herald, the Trader Joe's recall also includes products from Hannaford Supermarkets, Aurora Products Inc. and Whole Foods Market, as there's seemingly a fairly big scare on the subject of contaminated walnuts: about thirty products altogether have been recalled in the past few days, from a number of different brands.

For now, customers are advised to discard the products from the Trader Joe's recall and then present a sales slip for a refund.
