Michael Jordan Forbes Billionaire: NBA Superstar Joins Billionaires Club Led By Bill Gates

Every year, American business magazine Forbes releases a series of lists about different issues, from which companies are the most financially successful in the world up to which people have made the most money in the past year; now, in one of their famed lists, Michael Jordan's Forbes billionaire ranking has come to light.

MJ became a household name in the 80s and 90s, becoming one of the best-marketed athletes of all time and even helping basketball gain international recognition and fame; now, more than 12 years after his second retirement, Michael Jordan's a Forbes billionaire.

Forbes Magazine reports that their new list of billionaires for this year receives a record of 290 newcomers, all of who have managed to amount fortunes that reach the 10 figures, as different entrepreneurs and people from all branches of businesses reach this type of amazing fortune, including Michael Jordan's Forbes billionaire status.

Yahoo! Sports reports that LeBron James wanted to be the first-ever athlete to reach the 10 figures to his name, but it seems Michael Jordan's Forbes billionaire status came much earlier than James', as the former Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards superstar upped his fortune to reach the amazing sum, following the increase of his stake in Charlotte Hornets, a franchise he purchased when they were still the Bobcats, from 80 to 89.5 percent.

Of course, most of Michael Jordan's Forbes billionaire money comes from the brand payouts from Nike's Air Jordans sneakers, one of the company's most famous brands, which has become a classic since its introduction to the market back in 1985, at the height of Jordan's fame.

It seems like the Jordan brand alone grossed about $2.25 billion in 2013; in the meantime, Jordan's stake in Charlotte Hornets is worth about $500 million.

As The Guardian reports, Michael Jordan's Forbes billionaire addition is the most famous name on the list, with the US having 57 new entries in the list, including MJ, who's now worth $1 billion.
