Staying Tuned on Television for 2 Hours or More Can Cause High Blood Pressure

Daily Mail UK reported that watching television for two hours or more daily may increase the risk of raised blood pressure in kids, according to the recent study.

Children with age two to 10 were 30 percent more likely to have high blood pressure compared to youngsters who spent less time in front of the television or a computer screen.

Lack of physical activities may increase the risk by 50 percent. This is what scientists have found in the project, which covers 5,221 children in a total of eight countries in Europe including Hungary, Cyprus, Spain, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Sweden, and Estonia.

Dr. Augusto Cesar de Moraes, the lead researcher from University of Sao Paulo in Brazil, said that the study shows the total number of new high blood pressure cases as well as the connection between the different sedentary behaviors and physical activity with the high blood pressure risk.

Moraes also warned that the medical condition may cause cardiovascular problems in the long run. For instance, this increase the ischemic heart disease risk. Over two years, the high incidence of the elevated blood pressure was observed in the children.

The researchers concluded that the figures are worrying, provided that the sedentary behaviors are common in infancy and later in life. The results were published in International Journal of Cardiology, which shows that the rate of high blood pressure in the study is a bit high, specifically 110 in 1,000.

According to NewsMax, experts have recommended that young individuals should engage in physical activities for more than an hour daily and get rid of sedentary activities for at least two hours every day.

Living with a healthy blood pressure can provide numerous benefits to children and adult. Therefore, for everyone to avoid this, physical activities could help in reducing the risk of having the said condition.
