Known for his role of Steven Hyde in the period sitcom that saw Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis become superstars, "That 70s Show," how there's a different reason for the actor to make news in the world, as Danny Masterson's Scientology rant showed how impassioned he is about his controversial faith.
Scientology has been cause for a lot of controversy in the past decade or so, particularly in matters regarding its most famous member, Tom Cruise, an avid supporter of the faith who has been subject to a lot of criticism for it due to some of the religion's polemic policies; this time, though, it's Danny Masterson's Scientology voice in the crowd.
According to The Huffington Post, it seems like Danny Masterson's Scientology comments are actually from last January, as the "That 70s Show" actor attended this year's edition of Sundance Film Festival, perhaps the most famous independent festival in the world.
There was at least one big and controversial film that came out in Sundance this year: "Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief," Alex Gibney's documentary about the famous Hollywood faith, based on the book by the same name written by Lawrence Wright.
Of course, as Yahoo! News reports, Danny Masterson's Scientology comments were nothing short of defensive, as the actor was certainly not pleased by the treatment his faith had gotten in the film, which, among other things, famously stated that the Scientology Church had been responsible for Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman's split in 2001, as the actress was seen as a threat for Cruise's involvement in the faith - before, they had supposedly even wiretapped her phones.
In an interview heavy with curse words to Paper Magazine, Danny Masterson's Scientology views became clear, as he said that the documentary hadn't paid attention to any person who actually believed in the faith, and that it would be wrong to do that to any major religion like Judaism - so he sarcastically said it was fine to mess with his beliefs because they were "new."
"Everything in Scientology is just based on logic," was one of Danny Masterson's Scientology comments to Paper Magazine. "I mean, the word Scientology means the study of knowledge. So there's nothing else to it."
