‘Zelda’ Live Action Series: Netflix And Nintendo Bring Link And Zelda To Life In Live Action Show [VIDEO]

Along with the "Mario Bros." series, "The Legend of Zelda" is one of the most iconic franchises from the Nintendo company, and altogether from the world of videogames; now, new reports have surfaced that Netflix is actually in the planning stages with the Japanese company to release a "Zelda" live action series.

The world of gaming has been in a twist since last Friday, when the first rumors of a "Zelda" live action series first came to light, as geek websites all over the planet have been wondering how that would play out, as they even speak about possible cast members to play lead characters like Link, Princess Zelda and super villain Ganondorf, the one in charge of kidnapping the princess.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the first rumors of a possible "Zelda" live action series came to light earlier this week, after a source close to the project said that the series is in the developing stages with on-demand streaming website-turned-studio Netflix.

As CNET reports, for now the "Zelda" live action series is barely searching for the right writers for the project, and it's this early in the developing stages. However, the source close to the source material stated that Netflix would be aiming to make a family-friendly version of something like the hit epic HBO show "Game of Thrones," which is also based on previous material: the "A Song of Ice and Fire" book saga by American writer George R. R. Martin.

Upon hearing the news, reporters at geek culture website Kotaku seemed both excited and terrified at the perspective of a live action version of the beloved videogame, as Nintendo has attempted to create series (both animated and with actors) of their famous characters, often with awful results, like the infamous 1993 film "Super Mario Bros."

However, the site does point out that Netflix is more about its hits than its misses, so there's a chance the new "Zelda" live action series could be great.

In any case, while the possibility of a "Zelda" live action series is definitely a first, Nintendo did release an animated show with these characters, a short-lived (with 13 episodes) one in 1989. You can watch some of it below.
