New reports have surfaced about the upcoming Gareth Edwards spin-off in the George Lucas-created universe from a galaxy far, far away, and it seems that the next movie in line will see Felicity Jones' "Star Wars" debut, in a film that's set to be released in 2016.
Following the critical smash of her performance as Stephen Hawking's wife in "The Theory of Everything," Felicity Jones' "Star Wars" casting should come as no surprise, as the actress has been making a name for herself in the past couple of years - she's even nominated as Best Supporting Actress in the Oscars set to be announced later this month!
According to Deadline, the website that seems to have the best scoop in regards of castings for big movies (they talked about Benedict Cumberbatch's casting for "Doctor Strange" weeks before the official announcement), Felicity Jones "Star Wars" presence is already in the talks, only weeks before the actress faces stars like Keira Knightley and Patricia Arquette in the Oscars.
As The Guardian reports, Felicity Jones' "Star Wars" casting seems closer to becoming a reality, after beating "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" star Rooney Mara and "Orphan Black" actress Tatiana Maslany for the role, which will be directed by Gareth Edwards, the man responsible for hits like "Godzilla."
According to Variety, the upcoming film would have a female in its lead, reportedly Jones' role, and will be shot in 3D. No casting choices have been officially announced, but it is known that Chris Weitz is the one writing the screenplay, after having been behind projects like the 2002 movie adaptation of Nick Hornby's "About a Boy" and this year's release of a live action version of the Disney classic "Cinderella."
Time Magazine reports that other rumors surrounding the casting of the film have "Breaking Bad" star Aaron Paul and Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramirez in talks for the male lead - though, for now, only Felicity Jones' "Star Wars" presence seems like a given.
