Two Leading Group In Wireless Charging Technology Plans To Merge Into One Group

Two of the biggest groups in the wireless charging industry will be merging in hopes of a faster pace in both research and development of this emerging market. The merger will also introduce the wireless charging technology to a much wider arena with more than 200 member companies on their belt.

The wireless charging technology is an emerging idea that will enable customers to automatically charge their devices without the hassle of a power cable. This idea has been circulating around the tech community for quite some time already and has seen backing from big technological companies like Samsung and Microsoft, as well as those in chain retailers like Starbucks and McDonalds.

One of the two companies is Alliance for Wireless Power (A4WP). It has received backing from 140 various companies which includes tech giants like Samsung Electronics and Intel. The other one, Power Matters Alliance has received backing from AT&T and Starbucks, its core group is composed of 70 different companies.

The merger will be done on somewhere within the mid of 2015. The organization that will be formed by the merger was yet to be named and a statement release on Monday said that the merger aims to "accelerate the availability and deployment of wireless charging technology on a global scale."

The Power Matters Alliance claims that it has developed an inductive wireless charging technology and has already setup charging locations on certain establishments frequently visited by people like McDonald's and Starbucks. On the other hand the A4WP focuses its research and development on the use of magnetic resonance in wireless charging. It also claims that their technology will enable several devices to wirelessly charge at the same time.

On a letter released by both companies their merger will combine different companies into one group that would include AT&T, Qualcomm, Intel, Starbuck, Samsung and Integrated Device Technologies among others.
