When it comes to computer storage, the first thing that comes to mind nowadays is either cloud base or solid state drives. The once dominant hard disk drive is slowly losing its grasp on the war for storage dominance. However, Seagate takes this principle into a whole new level and might be on its way of creating a new market for itself.
Announced on its CES presentation, Seagate, together with its LaCie division revealed the company's newest set of hard drives to be offered to the market. On top of this list is the "Mirror". At first look, the one terabyte hard drive doesn't look like a typical hard drive. It is enclosed in a Gorilla Glass and sports a reflective body that is scratch-resistant. The hard drive is also covered in mirrored glass. The "Mirror" will be available in the LaCie website for $279.99 and will be offered in the latter part of Jan.
LaCie also revealed a four terabyte Rugged hard drive equipped with RAID Thunderbolt technology. According to LaCie, the RAID Thunderbolt will give the hard drive upload speeds of up to 240 MB/s. The hard drive also sports an aluminum body and comes encased inside an orange rubber. This hard drive will be available to the market within the first quarter of 2015 and will cost $449.
Seagate, LaCie's parent company has also revealed a couple of additional hard drives during the expo. Seagate Wireless is a battery powered hard drive that can simultaneously stream data into a maximum of three different devices. The hard drive has 500 gigabyte of storage/
One of the highlight of Seagate's announcement was the aptly named Seagate Seven hard drive. A 500 gigabyte hard drive that is only 7 millimeters thick. Seagate claims that the Seven is the thinnest hard drive in the market. The portable hard drive sports a very slick design and its body its body is made from pure steel.
