Reese Witherspoon Wild: Will New Cheryl Strayed Biopic Land Her An Oscar?

After her Academy Award-winning role as country legend June Carter-Cash "Walk the Line," Reese Witherspoon's "Wild" seems to be the latest stint the actress pulls to have another Oscar - but what are critics saying about her performance?

It seems that, for Reese Witherspoon, "Wild" was a deeply personal project - the actress even produced it with her own company, Pacific Standard, having optioned it for film even before it was published. And it seems that Witherspoon's efforts may have paid off, as the film is about to hit theaters across the United States later this week.

According to The New York Post, Reese Witherspoon's "Wild" performance is the one that will finally release the actress from her famous role as silly blonde lawyer Elle Woods. Even though the actress has gathered a lot of respect in her acting career - even winning an Oscar for yet another biopic back in 2006, playing the wife of Johnny Cash -, the actress has had trouble fully getting rid of the role that first made her a superstar in 2001.

On the other hand, The New York Times calls Reese Witherspoon's "Wild" turn full of "grit, wit and unblinking honesty," as she plays the role of Cheryl Strayed, the writer of "Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail," a story about her self-discovery voyage through the American Pacific coast.

In a recent interview in Harper Bazaar's UK, the actress spoke out about her time filming the movie, and what strenuous work it was for her emotionally - particularly the sex scenes, saying it was tough for her to bare all for the role.

For now, the critics that have seen the film before its official release have given Reese Witherspoon's "Wild" solid good reviews, and the movie has achieved an 88 percent Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes - it wouldn't be surprising to hear her named when it's time for the Academy Award nominations by the beginning of next year!
