Bruce Springsteen and Chris Martin: Bono’s Substitutes at World AIDS Day Show

Bono's health condition deterred him from performing at the celebration of World AIDS Day. Being an advocate on AIDS awareness campaign, his absence on Monday Night for the concert is such a loss.

But fortunately, the show went ahead as Bruce Springsteen and Chris Martin of Coldplay were determined to fill in Bono's absence and gave their best shot worthy of the person whom they are representing onstage.

New York's Time Square is full-packed with enthusiastic fans despite the rainy weather.

The concert went well as Martin was so honored to perform with his favorite band for the "Beautiful Day" and with another number, "With or Without You." Springsteen in a leather jacket also emerged to the tune of "Where the Streets Have No Name."

Bill Clinton has made a surprise appearance and shared a short speech, saying that, "You only have a minute and a half of halfway-serious talk and then it's all fun..." and ends with, "We're going to win this fight."

Surprises did not end there. Carrie Underwood also shared a part of herself for such a noble cause, as she renders with deep emotions her song, "Change" and capped her performance with "Something in the Water."

This was followed by Kanye West's medley of "Power," "Touch the Sky," "Stronger," "Jesus Walks," and "Black Skinhead."

No one can take Bono's place, yet those who performed in his name have made the event successful as thousands joined to commemorate the World AIDS Day. Springsteen, whose performance is considered by some as falling short of Bono's and appeared to be more of his own style, expressed his sincere thanks for those who have made themselves available to take part in the celebration, as well as an emotional statement towards Bono's condition.

Loved by many and admired by his fellow artists in the entertainment industry, Bono is on the road to recovery despite his serious injuries from a Nov. 16 accident.
