'Big Hero 6' movie cast have conquered the U.S. box office in its opening weekend against the highly anticipated film, 'Interstellar'.
Christopher Nolan's mysterious wormhole movie "Interstellar" came second with Disney's heart-warming robot film, "Big Hero 6" in box office sales on its opening weekend in a report by The Hollywood Reporter.
"Interstellar" came in slightly behind expectations with an estimated gross sale of $50 million while "Big Hero 6" debuted with an estimated gross sale of $56.2 million.
Set in the far future when the Earth faces the greatest turmoil of drought, famine and extreme climate changes humanity comes to near extinction. "Interstellar" features a group of explorers called Endurance set on an incredible journey to space that no one has ever done in the history in hopes of finding an opportunity for mankind to live outside its long-time home, the Earth.
The cast of this Christopher Nolan ("Inception") film is led by Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain who stars as the ensemble of astronauts trying to save human race.
The group, Endurance of "Interstellar" was beaten by the "Big Hero 6" movie cast, which leads what is believed to be Disney's most diverse animated film yet. It is the story of an adorable plus-sized robot superhero, Baymax invented by an avid robotic prodigy, Hiro and the special bond that grows between them. Hiro is joined by his group of adrenaline-seeking boys and girls that will be transformed into high-tech heroes out to help save the city of San Fransokyo. The movie tells a story of friendship, stereotypes and embracing individuality.
"Big Hero 6" is an adaptation of the Marvel comics and its characters. It is directed by Don Hall of "Winnie The Pooh" and Chris Williams of "Bolt" and produced by Roy Conli of "Tangled".
"Big Hero 6" movie cast is composed of diverse, talented young artists including Jamie Chung, T.J. Miller, Maya Rudolph, Daniel Henney, Damon Wayans Jr., Genesis Rodriguez, James Cromwell and Alan Tudyk.
"I think we went into the weekend hoping that, at the very least, that it would be close. Interstellar is a formidable title to go up against, and Christopher Nolan is one of the greatest living filmmakers, so to beat them by this margin is another sign of the creative momentum underway Disney Animation," said Dave Hollis, Disney distribution chief .
The movie was evenly divided in terms of gender, while families made up 70 percent, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The "Big Hero 6" movie cast appealed not only to kids but also to more adults.
"Big Hero 6" movie cast live up to continue the success that was brought by other Disney films like "Frozen" and "Wreck It Ralph".
