Real Honey: U.S. Markets Flooded With ‘Not Real Honey’

Real Honey- According to the research done for Food Safety News, more than 75 percent of honey sold in the American market is not exactly the real honey generated by the bees.

This happens through the filtering process where most of the nutrients are discarded by the extreme high temperature.  To enhance its texture, it is mixed with water and corn syrup. In this method, the pollen is removed through the filtration.

A real honey contains pollen, without it, it will be impossible to detect its original source.  Based from some reports, the big portion of the honey found in U.S. markets today came from China.  As it is commercially prepared, pollen was already taken out.  Important enzymes and vitamins were already lost.

There were also reports that the honey brought to U.S. is not healthy anymore. It is masked with heavy metals and animal antibiotics.  Not only that, some makers put in additives or corn syrup to dilute it.

For this reason, health organizations including the European Commission, World Health Organization and more have joined together to come up with standard rule, that with no pollen, it will be impossible to establish whether it is a real honey or not.

The Food and Drug Administration claims, a honey is considered real honey only if it comes with pollen and it has not undergone ultra-filtering procedure.

The FDA warns to always check the honey you are buying in the groceries. 'Ultra-filtrated' labeling in the honey just means that it is not a real honey anymore so don't buy it.

Can you spot what's a real honey from a fake one?

As it is hard to spot a real honey in a supermarket, getting honey from the local farm can save you from getting into trouble when buying the fake ones.  Honey from the farm ensures that you're getting a true honey because for sure it has not undergone chemical process.
