What Is Uber And How It Changed Life Of 26-Year-Old Woman In One Day

What is Uber? A 26-year-old woman celebrated her birthday all night over the Halloween and took an Uber taxi with her friends for a ride home. After a night of partying, she didn't realize she spent $326 over Uber Taxi and has to ask help from people online to pay her rent.

Gabby Wathen from Baltimore is a waitress and freelance writer. She celebrated her birthday on Halloween and partied all night with her friends. After the party, she and her friends used Uber app to get an Uber taxi. But since it's a holiday, Uber rates are nine times higher than the regular days.

The next day after alcohol has subsided, that's the time she knew what happened to her Uber ride. Since Wathen's bank account is linked to her Uber account she was charged with $326 for her 20-minute ride. And the big problem came after a night of booze when she realized she needs to pay her $450 apartment rent on same day.

Wathen unaware of what Uber charged her that night thought of asking for help around people online. She started a 'GoFundMe' page called 'Uber Stole My 26th Birthday.' Wathen requested online users to donate at least $1 for her to pay her $450 rent.

Before the page was taken down, Wathen was able to collect roughly $600. For people who haven't heard about what Uber is, Uber is a ride-sharing service provided by independent contractors. Uber is accessible through Uber app that makes riding a taxi faster with just a touch of your finger through your mobile.

"Uber ensures a safe, reliable ride, wherever and whenever, and dynamic pricing allows us to remain the reliable choice, even on the busiest nights of the year. Our in-app features ensure dynamic pricing is repeatedly communicated and approved before any trip is confirmed," an Uber spokesperson relayed to E!

Do you think Wathen is to be blamed for what she has done? What Uber is trying to explain is that they are informing their subscribers about any possible rate changes. Wathen was left off-guard on the situation, but she should also have taken responsibilities for her own actions.
