National grocery store conglomerate Kroger is kicking off a four-week Latin flavor takeover in its stores in honor of Cinco de Mayo! It's not surprising, really, considering the rise in the popularity of Latin cuisine among U.S. consumers. Either way, I'm here for all of the spicy, flavorful goodness they can throw my way.
"This event is a celebration of a culture and flavors that inspires togetherness and a passion for food," said Dan De La Rosa, Kroger's group vice president of Fresh Merchandising.
Dan also points out that Kroger is hoping to make Latin American recipes approachable for its customers and is providing some seriously lip-smacking versions on its Fresh Lane blog. I've always been an empanada girl, so trying out this pork and potatoes version is right up my alley. I've also got my eye on the Yucatecan Chicken Tacos flavored with warm spices like cinnamon and allspice.
If you're craving Latin flavors but are too tired to cook from scratch, Kroger's got you covered there, too. They're rolling out cilantro lime shrimp bowls, pre-marinated beef and chicken fajitas, fresh tres leches cake slices and more. The brand's Kroger Mercado line is also dishing out Latin delights like tamales, plantain chips and caramel flan.
At any given time, Kroger's always got the basics for a flavorful fiesta, like Cacique brand chorizo, queso fresco, and crema, and a bevy of Fanta flavors like grape, orange, strawberry, and pineapple (my personal fav).
Of course, you can shop for these items in-store, but this busy girl prefers Kroger's order ahead option for an easy pickup situation that leaves me more time to indulge in Cinco de Mayo satisfaction.
