The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just announced a significant recall of 13 Rizo-López Foods dairy products due to potential Listeria contamination. This includes beloved cheeses, creamy yogurts, and tangy crema, all potentially harboring this harmful bacteria. With dozens already falling ill and two tragic deaths linked to the outbreak, understanding the recall is crucial. Here's what you need to know.
The affected Rizo Lopez products included cheeses, yogurt, and crema. The recalled brands were Tio Francisco, Don Francisco, Rizo Bros, Rio Grande, Food City, El Huache, La Ordena, San Carlos, Campesino, Santa Maria, Dos Ranchitos, Casa Cardenas, and the 365 Whole Foods Market brand. This is the FDA's expanded list of recalled products.
Retailers including Cardenas Market, Northgate Gonzalez, Food City, La Michoacana, Numero Uno Markets, Superior Grocers, Whole Foods Market, El Super, El Rancho, and Vallarta stores have been affected by the recall nationwide.
According to the Center for Disease Control, listeria outbreaks affected 11 states, hospitalizing 26 people and resulting in two deaths. Listeria symptoms include fever, aches, fatigue, and in severe instances neck stiffness, confusion, loss of balance, and seizures. Seniors, pregnant women, and people with compromised immune symptoms are especially at risk when it comes to Listeria.
Check your refrigerators for these products and dispose of them. If you are experiencing symptoms of Listeria seek medical assistance immediately. Rizo-López Foods can be contacted at (833) 296-2233 for inquiries.
