Weirdest Food of 2023: Unexpected Dishes Making a Trendy Comeback

People enjoy experimenting with the food they prepare since it is now so easy to search for recipes online, particularly when they have a lot of free time.

As a result, they may make a remarkable food innovation, but it could also be a little strange at times, which can also be part of the tradition of some individuals. In this post, you will discover some of the weirdest foods consumed in 2023, which also have the potential to make their comeback.

Chocolate-Covered Bacon

Since 2005, at the latest, this unusual delicacy has garnered considerable attention during state fairs and festivals. Cooking some bacon and dipping it in either milk or dark chocolate is the basic concept behind this dish. An amusing and confusing sensory experience awaits you with this salty and sweet delicacy.

If you are wondering why this combination seems so 'weird,' you rarely come across two flavors that are opposed to one another paired together. On the other hand, this contrast is mainly the reason why it attracts people to chocolate-covered bacon. An explosion of flavor is reportedly created when the rich, creamy chocolate is combined with the crispy, smoky bacon, and you want to take advantage of this opportunity.

Cheese and Pickle Wraps

When you have a hot saucepan, place some of your preferred grated cheese on it and fry until it is semi-crispy on the bottom and sticky on the top. The next step is to wrap up the cheese using a spatula or a fork and then place the pickle of your choice on one side of the cheese. Remove it from the pan, wait for it to cool down, and then savor it afterward.

Accordingly, the salty and savory flavor of the snack is cited as the primary appeal by some individuals who enjoy the combination of pickle and cheese. However, other individuals consider this weird snack to be more comparable to the kind of longing that one could experience during pregnancy.

'Fish-head' pie

'Stargazy pie' is the actual name of this Cornish meal, and it may give the impression that it is a meal of wonder. However, as you look closer, you will notice that one of the fish heads appears to be hanging out of the openings on the topmost layer of the pie.

The fish heads, characterized by their glistening eyes focused on the stars, are the originators of the dish's unusual name in the first place. As mentioned, the tradition started in the 16th century when Tom Bawcock, a fisherman, risked the severe weather conditions to capture fish for the community of Mousehole, which was on the verge of starving due to the shortage of their primary food source.

In addition, a catch of 'biblical proportions' was brought back by Bawcock on December 23, shortly before Christmas, which prevented the community from being hungry. A significant pie was prepared from his catch, comprising seven distinct fish species. To illustrate the diversity, the heads of each fish stick out through the center of the pastry. Since then, December 23 has been observed as Tom Bawcock's eve. Thus, before their feast, the villagers parade around a massive pie baked with 'stargazy' ingredients and some lanterns they created.
